Ship Broker – What it is?

    The Shipbroker acts as an intermediary between two parties in the shipping industry. There are two types of Shipbrokers- Chartering Brokers and Sales and Purchase Brokers.
    A Chartering Broker acts as an intermediary between charterers and cargo owners, whose key role is to arrange the transport of goods and commodities by sea, and the employment of vessels for that purposes. He/She monitors freight, ship hire and cargo rates and analyses reports on sales and freight earnings to monitor the business’ key performance indicators and results.

Companies within the ship recycling industry are known as cash buyers when they purchase a vessel with 100% cash. In turn, the cash buyer sells the vessel to a recycler in any one of the ship recycling countries. For vessels purchased basis “as is”, the cash buyer takes over the vessel at the delivery port and then boards his own crew to sail the vessel. In the meantime, the vessel is re-flagged, given a new name and is given a fresh set of insurance cover for the voyage to the yards.
